Stickies

Notes that float on top of the page, where you put them.

A sticky is a note card that sits on the page itself rather than in a list. Put it next to the thing it’s about, resize it, collapse it out of the way.

Like thread notes, stickies belong to one page address and come back when you return.

Creating one

Three ways:

  • The pencil icon in the dock creates a blank sticky, ready to type in.
  • The Pin button in the note panel turns what you’ve typed into a sticky.
  • Float as sticky on a thread note converts an existing note.

Moving, resizing, collapsing

Drag a sticky anywhere on the page by its body — not the text area, which you’re typing in. Drag the bottom-right corner to resize it. Clicking a sticky brings it in front of the others.

The amber dot on the top-left corner collapses the sticky down to just that dot. Collapsed:

  • Click the dot to expand it again
  • Drag the dot to move it
  • Hover it to see when the note was last edited

The cards icon in the dock collapses or expands every sticky on the page at once.

The action buttons

Hover a sticky and a small toolbar appears in its top-right corner:

  • Anchor — binds the sticky to the page content beneath it. Only appears on pages where anchoring works; see Anchoring notes.
  • Copy — copies the note text
  • — opens the rest:
ActionWhat it does
Move to global noteTurns it into a global note, visible on every page
Return to threadMoves it back into the note panel’s list
ExportDownloads just this note as Markdown, HTML, or plain text
ShareCreates a link to the note
DeleteAsks for confirmation first

Move to global note and Return to thread are hidden while a sticky is anchored, because both would discard the anchor. Unanchor it first.

TODO — confirm whether Share ships in the first release. It works in the extension but is listed as deferred in the MVP scope.

Writing in a sticky

Stickies render Markdown as you type. Text saves on its own — there is no save button. Press Esc to finish editing and step out of the note.

An empty sticky deletes itself when you click away, so you can never leave blank cards lying around. See Writing notes.

On a narrow window

If your window gets too narrow to show a sticky where you put it, the card is replaced by a marker on the right edge of the screen, at the note’s height. Hover a marker to peek at the note; click it to keep the peek open.

Widen the window and the card returns to exactly where you left it. The note’s saved position never changes.
