Privacy and your data

What Pagenail stores

Two things: the address of the page (hostname and path, without the query string) and the text you typed. Plus your preferences — where you put the dock, your colour scheme, your font size.

What it doesn’t store

Pagenail does not copy the contents of the pages you visit. It reads the page to place your notes — to find an anchored passage, to measure the layout — but none of that is saved or transmitted.

Your note is your writing, not a copy of theirs. One useful consequence: when a page changes, your note stays exactly as you wrote it.

Where it’s stored

In Chrome’s local extension storage, on your computer. Not on a server.

That means:

• Your notes don’t follow you to another machine or another browser
• Removing the extension deletes them
• Nobody else can read them, including us

What leaves your computer

Very little, and only when you ask for it:

• Favicons in the dashboard are fetched from Google’s public favicon service, which means the domains you’ve taken notes on are visible to Google as you browse the dashboard. No note text is involved.
• Signing in, if and when you create an account, sends your email address and password to Pagenail’s server. See Account and sync.
• Sharing a note uploads that note’s text so a link can serve it. Only the note you shared. See Sharing a note.

Nothing else is sent anywhere.

Deleting everything

Clear all data in Settings permanently removes every note and preference from this computer. It asks once, and there’s no undo.
